Fashion & Sustainable
Facilitating a round table discussion on sustainability and ethical practices, bringing together experts and panelists by All India Artisans and Craftsworker Welfare Association (AIACA), tailored for entrepreneurs and small business owners in the Namda craft sector.
Namda craft, rooted in Kashmir’s heritage, blends Persian and Mughal influences with local traditions. Originating as a practical solution for insulation, it’s alternative to woven carpets, crafted through wool felting and adorned with intricate embroidery. Artisans, often from generational families, use natural dyes and motifs like chinar leaves, paisleys, and geometric patterns symbolizing nature, balance, and spirituality with bold and thick lines, and bright colours. Produced in Srinagar and nearby areas, Namda embodies Kashmiri culture’s elegance and sustainability, preserving its legacy through meticulous techniques and a deep connection to the region’s identity.
